This screen permits rapid scanning and selection of the available
instrument voices. Moving to a particular voice will select that voice
for the current instrument in the current configuration. The current
instrument depends on which instrument column was last selected on the
configuration screen. If the configuration is read-only, the voice change
is only temporary while on this screen; otherwise, any voice or bank
change will be reflected upon returning to the configuration screen.
Note: Voice changes may cause, as a side-effect, changes to the
configuration LFO settings and instrument voice function data, depending
on the instrument definition and whether combine mode is on.
There are 7 available voice banks of 48 voices each. Banks 1 and 2 are
user banks and may be changed as desired. Banks 3 through 7 are read-only
and contain fixed voices. Initially, banks 1 and 2 are copies of bank 3.
For the Music Feature card, changes to the user banks remain in effect
until power off, or until the card is reset from the Setup screen.
FB-01's have battery backup to retain data when the unit is switched off.
Original settings may be restored from the bank files included with
FM-Edit.
The current bank is indicated in the upper left. Entering a new value in
this cell will change the selected bank. If a particular bank has not
been accessed since program startup, there will be a slight delay as its
data is loaded from the synth. The "Copy from bank" cell allows the full
contents of another bank to be copied into the current bank (assuming it
is not read-only). Single voices may be copied via the Voice parameters
screen. The name of a voice in a user bank may be changed simply by
entering a new name when its cell is highlighted.
The first time a voice bank is accessed after program startup, its
contents are loaded into program memory. For user banks 1 and 2, the
contents are always obtained from the MFC or FB-01. The read-only banks
(3-7) are loaded from disk if they are present. This saves the slow
loading time from the MFC (or the even slower loading time via MIDI for a
FB-01). If the bank files are not found, loading will always be from the
synth; use the Setup screen to define the data directory containing them
to allow disk loading.
